Ah, Live Wallpapers. They’ve been the main bringer of ‘bling’ for Android users since their inception back in 2010, making home screens jazzier and iPhone users jealous – I know it made me jealous. I’ve had a somewhat on and off relationship with Live Wallpapers – recently however, it seems to back on. I’ve been trying some new ones and returning to some of my old loves on my phone and tablet alike. So, in order to save you the hassle of having to trawl through the Play Store looking for the next greatest Live Wallpaper for you, we at Android Headlines have put together what we feel is the Top Ten Live Wallpapers available today. Enjoy!
I must have ran this wallpaper for weeks on end when I first got my HTC Desire Matrix screensavers were oft-included in my Linux distributions but, this was in my hand, the Matrix running on my phone. What a perfect marriage, right? Digital Rain, for me, still reigns atop the pile of Matrix-themed live wallpapers. Offering an authentic display of the Matrix, along with other variations, without slowing down my phone or tablet. It certainly is one of my favourite – if not my favourite – Live Wallpapers. One that I’d strongly recommend.
Ah, the Nexus Logo synonymous with a lot of things including style for many of us. I know was happy when I saw that multicoloured logo emblazoned on the box of my beloved Nexus S. The Nexus Live Wallpaper launched on the Nexus One is a lovely wallpaper but, surely somebody could take a different approach on it and, unsurprisingly somebody did. Nexus Rain is a beautiful wallpaper that turns the four colours from the logo into…rain. It works beautifully and it looks nice too. With it’s black background it blends in well with widgets and the rain moves at a satisfying pace across the screen. There’s no slowdown on either my phone nor tablet and runs well on larger screens too. There’s also a paid version that comes with many more features.
I’ve had this one installed on my devices for as long as I can remember – one of the first Live Wallpapers that I paid for some years ago. It’s fantastic, the amount of control you have over your virtual little pond is ridiculous. I can change the fish – a very nice feature for a fish lover – change the colour of the water and turn the lily pads on or off. Something that always amazed me was not the wallpaper itself but, the fact that with all this going on it didn’t even slow down my aging HTC Desire. The wallpaper is available as free version but, if you find yourself growing to like it then I’d strongly recommend purchasing it. I’ve had countless amounts of fun with this one and it brings a smile to other people’s faces as well.
This is one that quite a lot of the time I found myself turning to when the original Nexus wallpaper began to become a tad boring or I wanted to change an aspect. Nexus Revamped offers users the original wallpaper – open source FTW along with presets that take on a new theme as well as user customisations ranging from colours to speed and backgrounds. There’s also a paid version if you want even more control.
This wallpaper is stunning, it offers a great, yet subtle view of some far-distant nebula in the universe. There’s not much to say about this one really, I mean, what more can you say about something that looks this good? It’s a Live Wallpaper that promises fantastic visuals for phones and tablets and it sure as hell delivers with gusto. Something that can’t be said for every Live Wallpaper. There’s also a whole host of differing wallpapers from the same developer offering different colours and visuals with the same level of polish. There’s also a paid ‘Galaxy Pack’ from the developer that offers seriously beautiful wallpapers all in one app.
