How to Port your Number to Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio has created quite a craze by literally shattering the competition into pieces.

It has finally started its commercial operations on September 5. This is not only due to the free preview offer, but also to the phenomenally low prices for its data which is definitely attracting users to switch their services to Jio.

Now if you don’t have a dual-SIM smartphone and would like to use Jio services with the offer on your existing number, you have the option of porting your number to Reliance Jio services.

Mobile Number Portability or MNP lets you switch your number from one service provider to another without changing your number, so your old contacts can still remain intact with you getting the best services.

In order to port your mobile number to Reliance Jio, make sure that your smartphone supports 4G LTE and VoLTE services. You can head to Reliance Jio’s official website and see if your smartphone qualifies for a connection. If your device isn’t compatible, you can also buy a LYF device and avail the services.

If your device is compatible with Jio network, you can proceed with the portability. Open Messages and type in PORT, space your 10-digit mobile number and send it to 1900. So for example if your mobile number is 9819191919, the message should be-‘PORT 9819191919’.

Once you’ve sent the message, you’ll get a message from 1901, for verifying your port request. A few hours later, you should receive a UPC or Unique Port Code, which is necessary for the porting process to complete from one service provider to another. This code will be valid for 15 days.

On your compatible smartphone, download the MyJio App from the play store. Once installed, tap on ‘Get Jio SIM’. Fill in your details, and after that you will receive a barcode, confirming your registration.

Now you can head to a Reliance Digital or Reliance Xpress Mini store to get yourself a connection. Simply carry the UPC code, the Barcode that you received from the app, as well as the documents necessary for a fresh connection. This includes passport size photograph, Aadhar card/Voter ID card, and other forms of address proof. Submit the necessary documents and you’ll get a Jio SIM.

Now the porting process begins. Once the services are ported, your services from the service provider will come to an end, and Reliance Jio SIM card will get active. Once your services on the previous SIM is terminated, insert the Jio SIM card and look for network bars.

Next you’ll need to complete tele-verification for activation of Jio SIM.
